Today’s world is going through an expeditious utilization of steel shots in the shot-blasting process. The increase in the usage of steel shots all across the world also enhances the manufacturing of steel shot products. Steel shots are used as an abrasive which is pressurized with high speed on the surface of the metal.
Basically, steel shots are round-shaped types of balls that are usually made up of liquefied steel through an atomization process. It is applied on the surface of metals to remove unwanted and toxic particles like dirt, coating, and paint. These are available in various sizes and hardness.
Types of Steel Shot for Blasting
The utilization of the different types of steel shot for blasting is increasing rapidly. It is effective in nature and also a cost-efficient abrasive that helps in detaching the rust and paint from the metal.
Different types of steel shots are available with high carbon as it is very efficient and reliable in transferring energy. Steel shots of high-carbon elements are applied to remove the old paint and coating and cleaning of the highly corroded materials. There are a variety of high-carbon steel shots that provides effective working with different sizes and hardness. These are as follows:
- Steel shots S110 – S110 grade steel shots are rounded-steel particles that apply to remove unwanted substances and clean the surface of steel plates and metal. It is also used in cutting granite. The size of the S110 is from 0.2 to 2.8mm. Its hardness is 40 to 50 HRC and the density of S110 is 7.2 g/cm3.
- Steel shots S170 – This grade of steel shots is round in shape and is used in the cleaning of non-ferrous alloy parts and finishing cast iron for better surface preparation of metal parts. The size of steel shot S170 is from 0.0331 MM to 0.425 MM. Its hardness is 40-50HRC /56-60HRC and its density is 7.6 g/cm3.
- Steel shots S280 – S280 are used in cleaning and finishing iron and steel casting which helps in smoothing the surface of the metal. This steel shot is 0.7 mm in size. Its hardness is 40-50HRC/ 56-60HRC and its density is 7.0 g/cc.
- Steel shots S330 – This is used in the cleaning of inner and outer surfaces of metal and finishing steel casting. The size of steel shot S330 is 0.710 MM to 1.18 MM. Its hardness is from 40-50HRC/56-60HRC and its density is 7.4 g/cm3.
- Steel shots S390 – S390 grade is used to clean the surface of metal and steel plate and casting. It is also used in the finishing of fabrications. The size of the S390 is 1.00 MM. The hardness of S390 is 390-530 HV and the density is 7.8g/cm3.
- Steel shots S460 – This is used to smooth and clean the inner surface of steel and iron casting. The size of this grade is 1.70 MM to 2.0 MM. Its hardness is 40-50HRC and its density is 7.2g/cm3.
- Steel shots S550 – Applying to clean the outer and inner surfaces of metal and finishing of steel castings. The size of this grade is 1.8 MM to 2.0 MM. The hardness of steel shot is 40-50HRC and its density is 7.20g/cm3.
- Steel shots S660 –It is used to clean and finishing of non-ferrous metals in blast cleaning. It is 1.7 MM in size and its hardness is 40-50HRC. The density of S660 is 7.0 g/cc.
- Steel shots S780 – This grade is used in cleaning metal surfaces by removing rust and other impurities from the metal. The size of S780 is 2 MM. its hardness is 40-50HRC and its density is 7.4 g/cm3.
